Sports Day DFW — Jordan Spieth began his quest for a PGA Tour card traveling to three countries and Puerto Rico in one month.
Spieth is currently confined to his Dallas residence, but he’s moving all the same. Actually, he’s logging more yardage than usual.
The 19-year-old shot 2-under 68 to make the HP Byron Nelson Championship cut at 3 under.
So if all goes as planned, he will log 216 holes over nine days: 72 holes at the Nelson, 36 holes in Monday’s British Open qualifier at Gleneagles CC in Plano and then 72 holes at next week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The 36-hole U.S. Open sectional qualifier is at Dallas’ Lakewood Country Club on June 3.
“This stretch is very important for me,” Spieth said. “These qualifiers are going to determine a lot of my PGA Tour schedule.”
Spieth’s T21 at last year’s U.S. Open earned him an exemption to sectionals. The only other way he could make the field at Merion GC would be to crack the top 60 of the World Ranking as of June 10. He is currently No. 169.
