Spieth, who has credited his Open win last year as the catalyst for victories in the Masters and US Open this year announced he’ll return to The Australian Golf Club in Sydney after finishing one shot behind Zach Johnson at St Andrews overnight.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to return to Sydney,” Spieth said.
“It has been an amazing six months since I left Australia. Shooting 63 in the final round and winning at The Australian Golf Club was one of the proudest moments of my career.
“To see my name on the Stonehaven Cup alongside all the champions of the game gave me great confidence.”
Spieth carded a stunning final round of eight-under-par last year round to win the Australian Open by six shots, coasting past both Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott in the process.
Luring him back is a coup for Golf Australia with Scott and several big name Aussies looming as starters at the event with world No. 1 McIlroy also a target to return.
