On Wednesday at an event in Mexico City, Under Armour and Jordan Spieth, in collaboration with the PGA, hosted the very first youth golf clinic to support to launch of the First Tee Mexico and of the Spieth One shoe.
The event, which was the fourth and final stop of the Spieth One Global Tour, celebrated the debut of Jordan’s first signature golf shoe, which launched at retail around the world on March 1, and highlighted Spieth and Under Armour's global commitment to grow the game of golf for the next generation of athletes.
Nearly 30 local youth from the local Boys & Girls Club and Premier Swing participated in the inaugural event for The First Tee Mexico, an initiative started by Grupo Salinas in support of the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship’s charitable mission to teach the game of golf and its values to children throughout the country. During the clinic, Spieth showcased his warm-up routine, swing techniques and provided tips to the young golfers in attendance. There was also an interactive Q+A session and photo opportunity with the young golfers.
During the Q&A, Jordan told a story about picking up a club when he was only two years old and spoke about the importance of practice and persistence, both of which have helped him to succeed in a very challenging sport. He reiterated that young players are the key to the future of the sport. When asked the question, “what would he like to be remembered for,” Jordan responded that ultimately, he would like to be remembered for more than his contributions to golf and that he hopes his impact on the sport will be rooted in his ability and desire to help people overcome challenges and succeed in any endeavor they set their minds to. “I’m really proud that Under Armour shares my values of supporting junior golf, which is a big part of the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation,” Spieth said. “It’s really special to have a chance to share with the juniors and be a part of this event.”
As part of their dedication to growing the game of golf, Under Armour will be outfitting the First Tee Mexico City and will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Mexico Limited Edition Spieth One to new First Tee Chapter.
